Juneau Board of Education Picks Consolidation S.1B Plan
The Juneau Board of Education choose school consolidation plan S.1B at its February 22, 2024 meeting. School building released back to the City and Borough of Juneau due to the consolidation plan are Floyd Dryden Middle School, Marine Drake, and the District Offices.
After a very long Juneau Board of Education meeting on the evening of February 22, 2024, members picked the S.1B school district consolidation plan. Picking a consolidation plan allows the Board of Education to balance the school district’s $7.9 M deficit.
The S.1B plan includes elementary school grades of K-6, 7-8 grades for Middle School, and 9-12 in High School.
The Board of Education put the Tlingit Culture Language and Literacy (TCLL) Program at Harbor View and the Yaakoosgé Daakahídi High School at Dzantik’i Heeni Middle School.
The Board of Education postponed a decision until some future meeting on where to put the district offices.
The Juneau Board of Education’s next monumental task will be to balance the $9.7 M budget deficit. They must operate on a balanced budget by state law and city charter.
